Hi Parents,
Black and White day started off with playing dominoes, learning about shadows by creating student silhouettes and invisible drawings with white crayons. The mixing station was popular to see what happens when mixing white and black paint together. The children looked very classy and grown up in their black and white stripes.
Come in and guess which silhouette belongs to your child.
To achieve this, we even got out the good old trusty overhead projector.
This week we had 'National Sorry Day'.
The day is held to acknowledge the devastation caused to our families and Communities due to the forced removal of our children from their families resulting in the Stolen Generations. Sorry Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to Stolen Generations members and to remember those who have passed into the Dreaming.
Although this is a tricky subject to talk about with the Kindies we were very appreciative of Hart bringing in two child-appropriate stories for us to read to the class about Sorry Day. We also had baby Mark come into the Kindy in the morning which was so special for this day.
The Kindies learnt a poem;
Here is the land
Here is the sky
Here are all my friends
and here am I.
We would like to thank the Noongar people for the land in which we play and promise to take care of it every single day.
Thank you Townsend family for these stories to help the Kindies understand that it is important to say sorry when we do something wrong and is something that a caring friend would do.
National Sorry day was made so special when the whole school were involved in making the letters SORRY on the oval in Black, Yellow and Red colours. Due to this event being on a Wednesday, Kindy Red were fortunate to participate.
We painted aboriginal symbols on card and leaves to show our appreciation for the Aboriginal people and their culture.
Don't the children look very grown up in their colours.
Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you see?
We read the story " Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see" and the children made a sequence map of the story.
Playing with Brown mud in our sensory tray.
Animals and Brown blocks
Fridays with Kindy Red
All together on the Brown rocks.
Team work out in the playground digging and shoveling the brown sand.
In our Pre-literacy programme we explored our letter sound S whilst revising the letter sound M. As a class we learnt how to say the name and sound that the letter makes when speaking. We brainstormed words beginning with the letter S. I then jumbled them up on the whiteboard and put words in a feely bag, the children had to sort the words into the right column. Letter- sound knowledge activities help the children listen to and isolate first sounds in words which is an important prerequisite skill for early reading and writing. The children are taught to focus more on the sound the letter makes rather than it's actual name.
S for ....
snake
sock
sit
seal
scissors
six
soap
smarties
sorry
At home can your child spot something that begins with the S sound?. Let them come in and share with their teachers.
Here is a cue for home...
"The tongue is like the lion and the cage is like your teeth ... to remember to keep their tongue behind their teeth when producing an /s/ . Then I can say to the children keep the tongue inside the cage.
Lips are together when producing the Mm sound.
See you for Rainbow week.
