This week we explored the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh colours of the Rainbow. In Mathematics we looked at the 2D shapes; Rectangles, Triangles and Diamonds.
Did you know that a Diamond's big name is called a Rhombus.
In our class shape song the children also learnt that a 50 cent piece has 12 sides. It's called a Dodecagon.
Every morning we have been signing in our name with our coloured texta's on our name tags. The children are practising to stay on the letter tracks and always start from the top or the red dot. Don't forget crocodile pencil grip!
Daily practise makes perfect and gets the little ones in good letter formation habits.
Our focus shared stories were " A little bit of Yellow and a little bit of Blue, Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann and the Yellow Digger.
In our Pre-Lit programme we focused on the concept of letters more so the letter M. What sound it makes and it's letter name. During our weekly mat sessions we looked at picture cards and words that began with the letter M sound. The children then looked at the concept of on-set and rime. This means the children had to guess the word the teacher was saying just by listening to the beginning sound then the ending sound of a word such as m-at makes mat or c- at makes cat. Later in the week the children will have the opportunity to experience small group language games to reinforce these new tricky concepts.
The children were introduced to the Kimochi doll Cloud. Cloud has happy feelings but then he can suddenly be sad. Cloud needs help to make his sad and mad feelings get smaller and his happy feelings become bigger again.
