Week 5

 Dear Parents,

I hope you had a fabulous long weekend enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time with family.

It is Week 5 and we are diving into our thematic unit " Under the Sea" and looking at our counting nursery rhymes.

Counting with Nursery Rhymes

The Kindies have been learning that numbers are different from letters.

They  are learning that you can count an object one at the time and in the correct sequence. You can point to an object with a finger and say the number . The Kindies know to use their " slow power" and not to rush when tapping an object once.

Learning to count objects by using one to one correspondence is lots of fun with nursery rhymes. We explored counting in the correct sequence to 5 with the help from the songs; " Five little Ducks", "Five Little Monkey's", " Five Elephants Balancing" and " Once I caught a fish alive".

These are some of our early number principles-

-   Count objects by using one to one correspondence

-   know that numbers always happen in a conventional order.

-   Recite numbers in order, initially to 5 then to 10 consistently.

-  Name the last number in the count that represents how many in the set.

Have a look at your children hard at their work and play whilst exploring our number concepts.
