Week 6 and 7: Under the Sea

" Under the Sea" theme has come to Kindy. The children have been talking about and exploring everything that can be found at the beach and the different types of sea creatures that live in the sea. We have been learning about our sea animals through various brainstorms and word games as we have started our " Pre-Literacy" program. The children have joined in with various language and word games during our morning mat sessions to prepare them to be good listeners and speakers.

Do you know we used five words to describe a sentence at the beach. The children helped count the words as the teacher tapped the beats on a drum. The children took turns to clap the words.

I  like  to Swim

I like looking at crabs

I can collect shells

Jay loves his big yellow truck

Augie loves going on the surfboard.

We can go to the park.

Vinny eats strawberry ice cream.

We shared many laughs when counting our words.

Our new learning centres:

Our list of songs:
You tube:  Slippery fish,  Baby shark, Here is the sea and  how many sea creatures in the sea.
Spotify: A sailor went to Sea, dancing feet, five little ducks, once I caught  a fish alive and down in the deep blue sea.

We shared the story the "Rainbow Fish". The class discussed what does a good friend look like and what things do they do to make someone feel loved? We were so relieved when the Rainbow fish decided to share his scales. We made our own Rainbow fish out of recycled CDs.

We also read there is a "Commontion in the Ocean". One of our favourite sea creatures from the story was the seahorse. We had our Dads on duty for both classes during the week. So we decided to share an interesting fact about the daddy seahorse that carries  the babies in it's stomach. That is a pretty special fact. The children got to see a real life clip about the life of a seahorse.

We made a seahorse during art and craft time using bubble wrap for print making.

We sorted shells and looked for interesting patterns on them through the magnify glasses.

We matched the correct number of sea animals to the correct wooden number.

We also completed our first self portraits of our bodies. They were all different and unique. We sang a song called " I'm glad that God made me".

We counted ice cream scoops to match the numbers 1-5.

We have also been learning about the first letters of our name and matching them to our name tag during morning register.

Floating and sinking for Science.

What a busy week diving into under the Sea.
